The truth behind our blanket.
The French textile industry has shrunk by a third in 20 years. Spinners, know-how, and knitting workshops no longer exist locally.
That’s why our pieces are designed in our workshop in China. China doesn’t mean sacrificing quality but rather, “where the craftsmanship still exists.” It’s a small, family-run workshop (40 employees) with expertise in weaving, led by a sister and her brother whom we met.
The result: it takes a full month, from dyeing to weaving, for a single Napoon blanket to be created. What you hold in your hands has been meticulously handcrafted over an entire month.
Step 1
Step 1 : The cotton
Our Oeko-Tex® and BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) certified cotton arrives already cleaned. The fibers passed through carding machines, where they are combed and aligned. The cotton is drawn into slivers, then spun and woven to form the fabric that will cover our tubes. The more evenly the fibers are aligned, the stronger the fabric will be.

This is the most time-consuming part of the process: it takes 15 days. Once woven, the fabric is immersed in its dye bath, cooled, dried, and then stabilized. It is this patient and meticulous work that ensures our colors remain stable over time, wash after wash.

Weight means nothing without surface area. Every Napoon blanket follows our precise weight-to-surface ratio. Moreover, two factors bring each blanket to its exact weight: the knitting density, tighter or looser depending on the model, and the amount of cotton inside each tube. Together, these create our signature cocooning effect for deep, restorative sleep.

The dyed fabric is sewn into tubes that will form the structure of the blanket. This is a meticulous sewing process: each tube must be perfectly even along its entire length to ensure a clean and uniform weave later on. The sewing threads must be strong enough to withstand the next step.

A machine blows cotton into the tubes, which are held by the artisan to regulate the force of the airflow. Without this, the pressure from the airflow would cause the tube and its seams to burst. Once filled, the tubes are rolled by hand to distribute the cotton evenly inside and prevent any areas of excessive density.

The final step, and the longest one, is hand-weaving. It takes a full day to make a single blanket. No machine in the world can replicate this process. It is the interlacing of the tubes that gives the blanket its final texture and structure.
